Mayor Pro Tem / City of South Fulton

Mark Baker embodies the definition of socially interchangeable. The former Professor of Current Issues in African American Studies and Introduction to Women Studies at Clark Atlanta University is also a retired Fulton County Schools Resource Officer and certified instructor of Law Enforcement Officer’s response to Weapons of Mass Destruction by FEMA and the Department of Homeland Security. Baker has served on various panels and forums professing “The Radical Honesty Movement,” sharing the stages and spotlights with the likes of Astronaut Mae Jemison and Roland Martin at Georgia Tech to David Banner under President Obama’s “My Brother’s Keeper Initiative.” Baker’s theories are unique, providing advice that empowers others to be successful in various walks of life. Totally unlike anyone before, and in a non-traditional fashion, Baker serves as a liaison for bridging the gap between the young people and the community they will one day serve. A graduate of Dillard University in New Orleans — his honors include nominations for Atlanta’s Top Thirty Under Thirty, and Runner Up out of hundreds nationwide for “Man of the Year” by Today’s Black Women Magazine. In addition, Baker attended Clark Atlanta University for his Master’s and Doctoral degrees. While working in Clark Atlanta’s Department of Public Safety, Baker served as Community Relations Officer, Sergeant and Shift Supervisor. Currently he serves as a Board Member of Brothers United Atlanta, and he is the Founder and Servant of HBCU Student Government Alliance. Baker is currently an Independent Educational Consultant and Member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association. He is also a proud graduate of the 10th Anniversary Class of Fulton County Citizen’s University. Out of a 72 candidate race, Mark Baker is one of 8 members on the City Council in the newly formed City of South Fulton Georgia, where he is the first Councilman elected in District 7. In his first first full year as Councilman Mark Baker has already authored legislation to pay city employees a $15 per hour minimum wage, banning the box for convicted felons on job applications, decriminalized less than an ounce of marijuana (making it now a civil violation), and he also became the first legislator to abolish Columbus Day in recognition of Indigenous People Day in the entire State of Georgia. Councilman Baker was selected by council to serve as Mayor Pro Tem/Vice Mayor in 2018.
